The Programs

6th/7th 8th Grades YoYouth Group (11 a.m. – 12 p.m.)

We have an active YoYouth Group of Middle Schoolers. We rotate Sundays of

R.E. (Big Questions): Discussion, often using the book, “Big Questions” to get us started.

Social Justice: In the past, the group has offered a “Souper Sunday” selling soup for lunch to contribute to the national program of Souper Sundays. We’ve also gone to King Soopers to hand out bags for the Food Distribution Center as well as helped to clean up Rothman Open Space.

Fun: The Bowling Alley is just down the street!! We’ve also gone to the Rec Center nearby.

Worship: Attend and/or participate in an intergenerational service or the adult service, or help with a Children’s Program.

In addition, there are local retreats, overnights and socials, as well as the MDD Jr. High Retreat, in the winter which many attend.

7th/8th grade O.W.L. for 08/09 (7th grade only in the future)

8th Grade Coming of Age (C.O.A.) (11 a.m. – 12 p.m.)

BVUUF offers a 27 week Coming of Age class to celebrate and support our 8th graders as they mature. The class includes two wilderness retreats and usually 2 meetings a month on values clarification, U.U. topics, and life issues. Each participant invites an adult from BVUUF to be their mentor. The Opening Ceremony is held in September. After the two retreats, one at the beginning of the year, and one at the end, the class culminates in a Coming of Age Celebration Dinner and a Sunday Youth Service. Partipants in the Coming of Age class are invited but not required, to become Youth Members of the congregation Another path to Youth Membership is to attend the regular Orientation sessions.

9th Grade Trip to Hopi and Navaho Lands

Ninth Graders are invited to join other Front Range Ninth Graders for a bus trip to Hopi and Navaho Lands each Spring. Classes meet at various U.U. congregations from Cheyenne to Colorado Springs once a month for the nine months preceeding the trip. The 2008/09 Trip is the 45th year.
