Fundraising Policy

Boulder Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (BVUUF)
Fundraising Policy and Application Form
Adopted by Board, May 22, 2002

Fundraising activities are important to the social and financial health of the Boulder Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. They are also an important element of the congregation’s social action/outreach efforts. However, it should be remembered that fundraising contributions are in addition to pledges; funds are not to be solicited as an alternative to annual pledging.

The Board of Officers and Trustees will authorize or reject proposed fundraisers based on the following guidelines:

  • The congregation as a whole, a committee or group, or an individual member may propose a fundraiser by submitting a completed Application Form to the Board. Forms are available in the office or here.
  • Fundraisers that benefit the whole congregation take priority over those that benefit/fund projects of certain committees/groups/members within the congregation.
  • Calendar conflicts (check with Office Manager or Program Council Chair) and impact on previously scheduled activities and events should be considered.
  • Money raised through fundraising activities will be allocated to the Fellowship’s general operating fund unless a proposal is made and approved by the Board to dedicate proceeds to another specific purpose.
  • It is recommended that funds deriving directly from community donations (for example, merchant donations for the Auction) shall be designated for the Gilbert Fund or other community outreach projects.
  • Sunday morning Service “Special Collections” (to raise funds for an entity other than BVUUF — UU or not) shall be limited to no more than once per month. The Board must approve a Special Collection and its date.
  • The Board reserves the right to determine whether or not the conditions of a fundraiser are being complied with.
  • Only approved fundraisers will have high priority for newsletter/Sunday order-of-service space.
  • Regarding fundraising activities undertaken by members/young people/friends to benefit groups outside the Fellowship to which they belong (political groups excluded):
    • Examples include Girl Scout cookies, taking orders for fruit to defray expenses of young people traveling to service projects).
    • Informal contacts may be made at coffee hour
    • Table space may be limited by Fellowship activities
    • Small folding tables may be useful
    • UUF group list may not be used to promote the activity except with Board approval
